Duck Hunting

We hosted a hunt last Saturday the 16th. Was an eventful morning. Before we even got set up we managed to get stuck. In spite of that we did get our decoys set up before sun up. That canvas back 2nd from the left was our first kill. Unknown to us there were about 50 geese that had roosted on the tank that night and when they got up they flew right over the top of us. We bagged one but unfortunately were unable to recover it. The rain came in about 8 and the birds stopped flying. But we had a great time and had some good fellowship.

There were over 400 widgeons on the lake we call "Peach Creek" this day. Was early December. This lake has great vegetaion mostly sago grass. We see Widgeons and Gadwalls early in the season. Most of them are local birds and depending on the weather we'll see them until it really starts to get cold.

These widgeons love getting in the neck of this lake in the flooded timber. They feel protected in those still pockets of water.
We jumped these birds of a pond we call the "Rock Dam Pond". It was a government pond built back in the 40's and still has the original rocks in the dam. It's real shallow and the birds love it. It's a great place to hop the dam late in the season as it is usually covered with mallards and geese.
